This blog is almost a blook… but its not. Written by a team of people in CCH Software’s UK office, the blog draws on CCH’s experiences working with accountants and offers a forum to share accountancy news, views, jokes, stories, insights and annoyances that are affecting the profession today.

The blog centres on extracts of the Sci Fi novel, Accrual World, written by acclaimed author Andy Blackford. The novel explores a world where accountants have been banned and forced to go underground to help impoverished businesses survive in the resulting chaos. This wry look at an Orwellian world will be a year-long project written for accountants whose thoughts and inputs are warmly welcomed.

With the support of Technology Editor, John Stokdyk, the blog will also be featured from time to time on the professional online community AccountingWEB.co.uk. On the project, John says: “Putting accountants at the centre of a dystopian future is a bold experiment that should help us to appreciate what they do in an entertaining and thought-provoking way. Our members are as curious as anyone else to find out how the story is going to turn out.”

About the author, Andy Blackford
Andy Blackford was born in Middlesbrough, on the banks of the majestic River Tees. He wangled an interview at Oxford University and crept in under cover of darkness. There, during one remarkable weekend, he discovered drugs, rock ‘n’ roll and sex (in that order). It is a minor miracle that he was eventually awarded a degree.

Blackford then rattled through a series of worthless careers – rock guitarist, music publisher, journalist, skateboarder – before sliding inexorably into the sump of advertising. Worse still, he began writing books.

He still expects every day to be impossibly exciting and is disappointed when it isn’t.

He lives in an old house with two women and a cat.
